Cupra’s first 100% electric car is on the way
Seat and their subsidiary company Cupra has started the production of an electric car earlier this month, the Cupra Born.
The production is taking place at the Zwickau factory. The Zwickau factory is the first of the Volkswagen Group(where Seat belongs too) for 100% electric vehicles and is considered the largest and most efficient “electric” factory in Europe. Both companies have agreed that Cupra Born will not go as Seat but as Cupra, the same goes for the upcoming SUV Tavascan.
Cupra aims to become a fully electirc brand until 2030. After 2025 Cupra wants to produce electric cars at Seat’s factory in Martorell and CEO Wayne Griffiths said that their target is to produce over 500.000 city cars annualy in spain, for different barnd groups.
Looks aside,as you can see the proportions and overall design are close to its VW twin. That being said, that does not mean that Cupra Born is just another VW Golf. With the unique style rims and the “Super Hero” looking logo brand it attracts a lot of attention. Under the “hood” is all Volskwagen’s MEB or Modular electric drive matrix. There’s an electric motor mounted above the rear axle, and battery pack under the floor, with rear-wheel drive.Cupra Born does everything a daily EV does but registers very little on any possible of excitment. Even though it has already fast acceleration, with the e-boost function,as speed rises the higher rate of acceleration is noticeable, very useful for a quick overtake. There are four differnet versions with the lowest 45kWh battery at 349km range and higher but heavier with 77kWh battery 539km range.
We are in an nodal point of history of electric cars and as the years goes by many brand will join the EV “war”.
