The new Nissan Z GT500 is joining the Super GT of 2022
Nissan and NISMO announced the replacement of the iconic GT-R with the new Nissan Z GT500 to take part in the Japanese Championship Super GT in 2022
After more than a decade of service since 2008,Nissan decide to retire the GT-R and try again with the Nissan Z series, since the last time a Nissan Z that took part in Super GT was in 2007 the 350Z or Fairlady and in 2008 was replaced by the G-TR, which was taking part in races until this year. The last time Nissan saw victory was in the GT500 category in 2015, where they won the Driver’s Championship as NISMO with Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli.
The New Nissan Z GT500 is based on the new sport coupe Z which revealed this year. Although Nissan hasn’t released any technical specifications, the race regulations dictate that teams must use a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine fitted with a single turbocharger and bolted to a paddle-shifted six-speed transmission. Most of the cars compete in this category produce approximately 650 horsepower.
The Z that will take place in showrooms as 2023 model is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged to 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The six sins the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, though an automatic version will be available as well.
Nissan’s Z GT500 in the 2022 season of Super GT will face the Acura NSX-GT (or Honda) and also the most direct rival the Toyota Supra.
